Synodiporia: Jaunt History
* Digital Frontier: Infiltrator: KAN-2 the Miner system-repair program / KAN-3 the Crypto architectOriginally skeptical about the new faces on the Grid, KAN-2's duties led to him working side by side with the newly awoken Cryptos and gaining respect for their abilities - and away from working with his old friend SHIRO as it turned, in his eyes, from a fair minded logic program to an obsessive Rebel leader. On finding out that it'd become what looked like a whole new form of Program, he sought refuge in the Cryptos' code library to clear his mind... and, alongside fellow Miners, walked into discovering secrets they hadn't wanted discovered.
If the options were to turn his back on what he'd learned and what they could teach him forever, or to choose to join them and fulfil his potential and Purpose in a new way... he threw himself at the new life presented as the only choice he could see. From then on, the newly-converted KAN-3 would rapidly find himself growing closer to the members of his new suite, and working to aid and protect his faction as they pushed on to find their lost User, SAGE... also known as the Hermit.
* Marches of Purgatory: Investigator: Maestro's "son", artist, bartenderKanji planned on keeping a low profile for his first time out investigating as himself. Keeping an eye on his Infiltrator friends, sharing a couple of bits of news as they came up... still. He had a couple of moments. Having the chance to learn magic other than his Persona skills, getting to see Leonardo's greatest works first hand (and having the maestro introduce him as 'the closest thing to a son he has'), even picking himself up a bar job at Purgatory's favourite drinking spot... he certainly kept himself busy. Perhaps the 'low profile' bit didn't work as well as he hoped... but it was a Jaunt where very little did. At least he came out of it better than some.
* Questing Country: Infiltrator: Kei Tourmaline, Champion of ThreadsA young Hecatite scholar, expected to be a paragon of discipline and logic at home, but he's not always coped well with the pressure... Embarked on his first Valence Quest alongside his Bond 'brother' Naoki, 'papa' (despite ages) Lupa and 'uncle' Dorian, later connecting to new Oracle Janos along the way and making friends with another young member of his kind who'd suffered a deep loss. While he initially worked to make sure that everyone - including the newest Champions and the likes to arrive - has a fair chance at the prize, he's found out more and more about the secrets behind his bondmates, friends, and the mysteries of Questing Country itself along the way... while he didn't win a Valence for himself, he gave it everything he could, and he's happy with how things worked out.
(Epilogue: During the Escape from Junkworld era, 100 years later, Kei's life is successful but not without its share of sadness and problems...)
* Lightning Age: Infiltrator: Kiran Tachibana, gadgeteer apprenticeA young man born to a family from Uchinaa but raised in the Chakravartin Raj among their ornate and beautiful clockwork designs, Kiran showed an uncanny talent for construction at a young age, and eventually followed his master to Nova Venezia... Even if he missed a lot of the excitement, he did manage to meet fellow creators and engineers, and managed to learn a thing or two, but it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for the young craftsman. An injury in a storm, panic in the bombing, rumours his master was the mad scientist Blitzkopf, and word of what could be found in the shadows of Nova Venezia left their marks...
...But a fleeting encounter with an enigmatic proxy left the most lasting mark of all on someone who could have been the only infiltrator in the city who'd been just what he'd seemed. Just an engineer seeking to be the best he could.
* Cursed Kingdom: The Missing Dragon: Investigator: Green Illuminant's apprenticeIt's not easy being green, but it beats being yellow or violet.
The idea of landing in the same world as Dolorosa after his own magic research had come so far intrigued Kanji as the Travellers arrived in Misericordia, but the reality of their situation soon set in. While his attempt at getting an 'in' with the city's leading mercenary group failed, he at least managed to make one powerful (if ... tiny) contact eventually...
Unfortunately, trying to keep secrets on both sides would prove hard... but a promise is a promise, right? That on top of their constant bad luck and bad timing, finding out about the dragon's eggs too late, would push Kanji's willpower and determination to their limits ... something even the Walkabout's patron, the Empress, would notice.
* Escape from Junkworld: Infiltrator: Kyan, prodigy astronomer [plot role]A Hecatite raised from a bud in the harsh and unforgiving conditions of Junkworld Gehenna, Kyan was always a dreamer with his head in the stars and ambitions of leaving one day. He took any chance to gather data and visions of other worlds, from running the transmission tower to getting cybernetic upgrades to allow him to sense and process things that others couldn't... still. He'd had very little reason to ever believe he'd see them for himself.
Until a stray signal in the transmissions and static he was receiving led him to discover the Tachyon Storm that would threaten their wreck of a world, throwing the young astronomer into a fight to get everyone away safely - and driving him into deeper and deeper fascination with the phenomenon he'd discovered...
He took to the role of navigator for the ancient ship the Empress of Moths easily enough, given his lack of experience. However, he couldn't put the storm data aside, and exploring it further would lead to some very unexpected discoveries. What does it mean when a storm starts to sing to you? He perservered, studying it to the point of exhaustion... and when all seemed lost for the Empress' crew and passengers, helped understand and make contact with the singer. Not a supernova, but a being born from the ship itself... perhaps it'd been destiny.
* Code of Dishonor: Investigator: Mibugumi rookieJust like landing in a history book. If the history books contained magical martial arts. Finding himself at the camp of the Mibugumi militia on En Zhenming's Bando Peninsula, Kanji figured that the Travellers could well use someone on the inside... and given no-one else was inclined to sign up, he took the plunge. He settled in well enough, acting every part the enthusiastic new recruit... sure, he'd never been inclined to like authority for its own sake, but these weren't likely to accuse him of making trouble for just existing. If he was going to do it, he'd do it right.
Admittedly, 'doing it right' in these circumstances doesn't usually mean sneaking out from camp to go uncover just what happened to a ruined and burned village... still, what he found was enough to prove the truth to his commander, who would eventually lead him into a guerilla mission and battle against the imperial forces trying to tear the peninsula apart. ...A fight that would result in him having to take a life for the first time, leaving him with a lot of questions and a heavy conscience.
* Roman Holiday: Infiltrator: Secundus Australis Catulus, rising star charioteerOnce a poor stablehand, now the latest star of the racing circuit, living the high life while he can... returning to his old home in sunny Stabiae for rest and relaxation for the most part, and a good number of parties, meeting old and new friends. An uneventful Jaunt, but a pleasant enough one. After last time, that's not a bad thing.
* Villains and Vigilantes: Investigator: Hero design internKanji's arrival in the alternate present English city of Newport was greeted by the headache-inducing reminder that he'd kept Kyan's transmission senses, and with a slightly more welcome job offer at a fashion design studio for the superhero set. This wasn't the city of any superhero story he'd ever heard, though, under a tight, authoritarian rule... something that's always rubbed him the wrong way. Still, it was an improvement over some Jaunts! His radio senses came in handy at times for gathering info, the job was a fun challenge (usually), and being an investigator had at least meant he could be there for his friends... even if it had him worried for them. It's all had him wondering, though... does he always have to be on the front lines of a mission to play his part?
* [Bonus] Lupa's Dungeon: ???: Tellus of the Wolves / Asura MitraNot a Jaunt, but... when Kanji wound up living the life of a Junkyard rookie, the distinction's academic. His Junkworld cybernetics ended up putting Tellus, as he knew himself, into the shoes (or ... hood) of a strategist and analyst, who made the choice to join up with the Wolves without knowing of his actual affiliation with the group. A mark of the importance of bonds, or just a strategic decision for self preservation?
The Atma virus' descent on the recreated Junkyard left him struggling not only with an Avatar Tuner's hunger, but with his own identity. With his memories slowly returning over the course of their stay there, of his life and nature as a dungeon diving Traveller, it was hard not to ask himself - who was he, and who was this Kanji he was supposed to be? (And where had he heard Sera's song before?)
* Lightside/Darkside: Infiltrator: Kastor, darkside musicianA regular performer at the Ideograph Cafe, Kastor's been in a good place to hear the stories circulating the divided city of January... While not as angry about the city's situation as some people, he's definitely noticed flaws in the system. Admittedly, the ones personally important to him aren't the most critical on the grand scale... but such things as the nature of the Dusk Opera inspired him to try and create a performance that would bridge the circadian gap without having to be able to see daylight himself. Before it would do so, though, the truth about the divide in the city came into the shadows... It was hard news to deal with. But the show must go on... and the final production was good enough to even impress the Arcana. He ended the Jaunt with grand plans to help unite a changing city and help the two sides get to understand each other ... even if he still doubted he'd ever be as fond of the daytime as the night.
* Haunted Isle: Infiltrator: Karal, mermaid warrior 🐙The young warrior liaison on the Crownbreaker mer council, Karal's someone who takes the safety of his adopted school very seriously. However, he couldn't help but let the pressure get to him when two strange schools of mermaids and human companions arrived at the atoll... first managing to anger his younger brother over his attempts to keep the group concealed, then the worries about the Deepsong - something he refused to dignify with the name 'song' - and its effects spreading the Stricken contagion through the waters...
And then the news that one of his fellow councillors had killed a respected member of their group. What's an octopus to do? Especially one who's growing to feel like he can't quite believe in and trust the same things as the rest of his kind... and who found himself starting to believe that he couldn't even care for those who he wanted to protect and do his best for. Including his little brother.
* Pogémon!: Investigator: Newbie SlammerProbably the best start to an investigation yet! Kanji's first visit to a world with psychically enhanced knowledge of his environment dropped him into the middle of the preparations for a tournament, where
It'd prove to be a successful Jaunt for him overall, though, being able to nurture the little bird's courage and being able to help in the defence of the city in an admin role - learning that he didn't have to fight to do the job.
(... The worries would come afterwards, when although he might have kept little Piyo with him, he'd discover that the kindly person he'd worked with to protect the city had had rather darker plans for the future... but he wouldn't let himself be angry about it. They'd done what they could.)
* Olympus Upended: Infiltrator → Infiltrator Persona: Kallias, fate-blessed and moon-chosenA young man with an unusual gift granted by the Fates themselves, Kallias had originally left his home on the outskirts of Athens to see what he could find out about his abilities. It hadn't taken long for him to spot the threads of fate leading people towards the city of Iolchis, where his travel would be cut short by disaster and a world turning on its head...
And by Kanji's memories being awoken in his mind to a barrage of confusion that would initially remind him of his Junkyard experience ... closely followed by frustration at what'd happened while he wasn't able to witness it for himself. Kanji's stronger personality would help drive Kallias forward to get involved in the schemes of the gods themselves, helping to establish a new order on Mount Olympus and helping protect the citizens of Athens. In the end, his actions would earn Kallias an offer from the restored moon goddess Selene - to take over Athena's patronage of his home as she took one of the ruling positions in the reformed pantheon. He'd accept - though with Kanji carefully ensuring that the Jaunt would be over before he stepped up to claim the mantle. Immortality was something that Kallias would have to commit to himself.
* Showtime!: Infiltrator Persona: Casey Greene, unprepared performerWhile amateur musician Casey'd come to the Starlight Festival with his little siblings just to watch the acts and let the kids see their idols, he'd been dragged in far further than he'd expected. With sister Maria volunteering him to help fill in for a missing act, he rapidly found himself in the deep end - but with all of Kanji's resources available to him, he'd been able to pull it off, and even managed to perform with the missing band themselves on their return.
(Though where his backup band would end up, he'd have no idea...)
* Dragon Hatchery: Investigator: Hatchery technicianDragons. Why did it have to be dragons. At least these ones are cute and he gets to hang out with his team again, after some rocky times...?
* Night Falls on Yensid: Infiltrator: Kyoto, curious leader [plot role]The leader of the Stonefolk of Thunder Mountain - a community of reptilian people who'd lived in seclusion from humanity since a disaster caused by one of their ancestors - Kyoto'd always been fascinated by human society. Nominated as their newest leader at a younger age than most, it took being thrown in the deep end to drag him away from his studies and make him step up to the task of guiding his people into a new era of reunification...
* Ouroboros Retrograde: Investigator: Adversary of SignalsArriving back in the dreamworld of Questing Country two years after his formative experiences with Kyan aboard the Empress of Moths... a lot's changed for Kanji in that time. Realising he could no longer call himself a Champion was a shock enough, especially with the timewarped state of Questing Country and Kei's presence there to claim his old archetype... but gaining the role of Adversary of 'Shut Up And Listen' has had its advantages as he started to look for some more personal answers.
